    Problem with different software installation...?

After fresh install of Kubuntu 10.04 some packages can't be installed.
This is list of my problems:
    • firefox 3.5.9 (I managed somehow to install older 3.5.5 version)
    • samba (KPackageKit reports: The following packages block the installation: samba)
    • pidgin (KPackageKit reports: The following packages block the installation: pidgin)

There is some big problem with this release. This is not even for pre-release... So many bugs...
I don't know about other distros but those mistakes could not happen to Kubuntu before.

Do your self a favor, and don't use KPackageKit. It isn't up to snuff for real package management - yet.

Install Synaptic Package Manager. That can be done from KPackageKit or from the console with:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install synaptic
Then use Synaptic to select and install your packages.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.

          ...
YET ?!?? Kubuntu is out since 5 years, should be enough time to fix it, if they really wanted to ...

Kubuntu is fine - great even. KPackageKit is 'new' since Karmic. So, it hasn't been around that long. It was 'developed' as a replacement for the venerable Apt Package Manager front end that many of us - myself included - used. Of course, even before KPackageKit came on the scene, I was still installing/using Synaptic.
