VLC Segmentation fault after VLC and KDE upgrades

Earlier today I applied an update to VLC media player and it worked fine. Later I upgraded to KDE 4.3.3. Now VLC gives a "segmentation fault".

    BEWARE!

P.s. This is a fresh LL install
    Kubuntu 11.10
KDE 4.7.3
Athlon XP 2000
512 MB RAM
ATI 64MB Video
~11 year old system still kicking :&gt

Saw your remark there. Was almost going to dist-upgrade to KDE 4.4.3 - had the ppa added and check the proposed and backports repos - but seeing what you said, decided to wait some more.

Well, after reading the comments on

KDE SC 4.4.3 is a recommended upgrade for everyone running KDE SC 4.4.2 or earlier versions. As the release only contains bugfixes and translation updates, it will be a safe and pleasant update for everyone.
I decided to go ahead and upgrade to KDE 4.4.3. No problems at all. Rebooted after the update, and here I am, with KDE 4.4.3. No problems.

How does one upgrade to Kde 4.4.3, what is ppa and what repo is it in? Thanks.
