Japanese (and others) input in Kubuntu Lucid

Hi all, I open this discussion because I found a lot of old, not-updated, contradictory guides on how to install IBUS/scim/SKIm/UIM (what a confusion!) on (K)ubuntu. I wasn't able to figure out what is the best system and especially, what is designed to work properly on Kubuntu!

I've seen that a lot of users are in the same problem, needing of a system at least similar to the one on Windows.
I some of you able to write some instructions on how to enable a japanese input system on Kubuntu Lucid? I personally use Kubuntu 10.04 64bit.
    Thank you very much
