DeVeDe, K3b and libavutil playing odd games

Until yesterday all of the above was working just fine.

Now after some updates today and install kernel -22.
now i am getting issues with launching k3b:
update notice wanting me download some video-codecs, which do not install with another error message:
E:Probleme können nicht korrigiert werden, Sie haben gehaltene defekte Pakete.
Translation: Problems could not be resolved, recieved packages defect.

I wanted to convert a DVD with devede (I used it yesterday at length)
It telles me that it needs mplayer, mencoder. Both are installed.
Purged all three and reinstalled. SSDD.

In terminal I get:

I'd say "nein" -- it looks like it's going to rip out ffmpeg and mplayer and other things that you need.

I saw some new xserver-xorg packages come in last night, but I haven't yet run upgrades today, and won't until this evening (Eastern U.S. timezone). Hopefully it's some transition with libavutil49, and the next 24 hours will let it complete.

I think I found the culprit but I'll have to do some research first.

I went to my laptop and since I have the same configuration there as on my desktop, except for chromium and devede / k3b work fine on the lappy.

I think it has to do with the chromium ffmpeg-codecs that are part of the chromium package.
