Dragon Player doesn't play commercial dvds

I already had libdvdcss2 installed and I still can't get DragonPlayer to play a DVD. This is what the terminal messages say:
    Code:
    cogadh@ubuntu:~$ dragon --play-dvd /media/ULTIMATE_AVENGERS
dragonplayer(1555)/kdeui (kdelibs): Attempt to use QAction "aspect_ratio_menu" with KXMLGUIFactory!
dragonplayer(1555)/kdeui (kdelibs): Attempt to use QAction "audio_channels_menu" with KXMLGUIFactory!
dragonplayer(1555)/kdeui (kdelibs): Attempt to use QAction "subtitle_channels_menu" with KXMLGUIFactory!
libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 1.1.17 from [url]http://xine.sf.net[/url]
libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.10 for DVD access
libdvdread: Could not open /dev/dvd with libdvdcss.
libdvdread: Can't open /dev/dvd for reading
libdvdnav: vm: faild to open/read the DVD
libdvdnav: Using dvdnav version 1.1.17 from [url]http://xine.sf.net[/url]
libdvdread: Using libdvdcss version 1.2.10 for DVD access
libdvdread: Could not open /dev/dvd with libdvdcss.
libdvdread: Can't open /dev/dvd for reading
libdvdnav: vm: faild to open/read the DVD
QInotifyFileSystemWatcherEngine::addPaths: inotify_add_watch failed: No such file or directory
QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /home/cogadh/.config/ibus/bus
Bus::open: Can not get ibus-daemon's address.
    IBusInputContext::createInputContext: no connection to ibus-daemon
The problem is, there is no /dev entry for the DVD drive and I can't seem to make Dragon realize that. As long as it wants to keep trying access via that route, I don't think it will ever work. It should be noted that on vanilla Ubuntu, the DVD plays fine.

Have you just tried using the 'vanilla' CLI of:
    Code:
    dragon --play-dvd /media/cdrom0
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

      Yup, same exact results.

I just realized I posted this in a old 9.10 thread, but it is actually a 10.04 problem, if that makes a difference.

EDIT - Another minor note, I installed VLC and it has no issues playing the DVD (except no 5.1 sound, but that's an issue for another day).

Re: Dragon Player doesn't play commercial dvds

Do you have the libdvdcss2 package? I'm assuming you must because VLC plays the DVD. Double check that you have it and maybe it needs to be linked to Dragon.

Yup, its already there and Dragon is already trying to use it, it's just trying to find the DVD in the wrong place.

With a DVD installed, where in /media does Dolphin show it mounted?

Re: Dragon Player doesn't play commercial dvds

Depends on the DVD. It seems to create a new mount entry based on the label of the DVD. In the case of the DVD I am currently testing with, that is /media/ULTIMATE_AVENGERS.

Dragon Player works just fine here (LL 10.04 32-bit) on my Toshiba Satellite P105-S6147. LL was a fresh installation form the LiveCD. Added the Medibuntu repository, and followed the instructions for Playing Encrypted DVDs With the entire Medibuntu repository. This has always worked, on every version of Kubuntu I've run.

Re: Dragon Player doesn't play commercial dvds

is it looking for the dvd in the /media directory?

in VLC, for me, it looks in the /dev directory of that device. Don't know if that makes a difference here.

Same with me, right up until 10.04, but for some reason now it doesn't work and only with Dragon Player.

If you actually look at the content my original post, you would see that is the precise problem. It is not looking in /media as it should, it is trying to access via /dev/dvd, which does not actually exist. I would point it at the correct entries, but I do not seem to have the option to do that.

Have you tried purging dragon player and reinstalling it?
                        Code:
                        sudo apt-get purge dragonplayer
                        sudo apt-get update

Why would I try and help you if I hadn't read your post? Yes, I mis-spoke, but this community will not help you (even with the most trivial of problems like this one) if you berate us.

If I pretend that you're still looking for solutions in a constructive manner, I'll advise that you use VLC. If it works, it works.

I don't mean to sound rude, but you have posted twice in this thread and each time your suggestion or question was already quite clearly covered in my original post. I am looking to make Dragon Player work, otherwise I would have simply stuck with VLC after using it to test. Suggesting to stick with VLC really isn't helping at all.
