Re: Kubuntu 10.04 Final Impressions: Vote now!

If I am not mistaken, Kubuntu 10.04 is the only KDE based LTS distro out there, CentOS and others are all Gnome.

Actually, Kubuntu Dapper Drake 6.06 LTS was the first. The EOL (End of Life) date is June 2011 for the Server version. For the Desktop, EOL was June 2009.

I meant among non Canonical releases, even Xubuntu is the only LTS out there of its kind.

          I re-installed 9.10 because 10.04 gave me less:
          -weather applets didn't work
-couldn't use glassified theme, in fact, no way to install themes that I could see

9.10 runs the google apps I like (picasa, google earth and chrome) just fine.

I give it a A. Why? Because it never fails. Everything just works. Maybe I'm getting more use to using KDE than before.
Cockpit errors give a lot of users reason enough to hate anything.

I'm an old Gnome user from why back. I rarely used the KDE3 series. Just now feeling comfortable using KDE4 through Kubuntu. Tried several other renditions - Suse, Mandriva, PCLinuxOS, etc, but kept coming back to Kubuntu.

I like it just fine...... even though I'm at KDE-4.5.0 so technically not the stock 10.04 final.
I use it every day and no real problems........for me

@rogerduncan100 I still have and can use glassified........and the themes settings are in system settings>workspace appearance and the get new themes button is their as well

I have a shutdown prob where wear not unmounting cleanly but I'm confident a fix will come along soon enough....... agin not that big a prob.....who shuts down

              so I gave an A

Re: Kubuntu 10.04 Final Impressions: Vote now!

I have used every desktop environment and every major distro except one - kubuntu.
Partially because I turned against KDE when it went to 4 and partially because I have only ever really heard bad things about kubuntu.

Well due to many frustrations with ubuntu (and gnome generally) I have playing with a few KDE distros and finally gave kubuntu a try.

                I was very pleasantly suprised.
I have only one major issue, kopete won't work with MSN but other than that everything has been running very well and it's very responsive.

Although ubuntu was stable enough, there were a lot of feelings of incompleteness.
Apps missing features or not fully working.
Nothing really killer, it was just so many niggles and annoyances.

As far as kubuntu lucid is concerned, I think it's a great distro and up there with openSUSE 10 and Mint 7 & 8 as the best distros I've used.

Whether or not it has convinced me to stick with kubuntu remains to be seen.
Kubuntu maverick testing isn't going well at all so time will tell.

If you mean "IM" with MSN, then try emesene.

For some reason emesene won't work with my webcam in kde, but does in gnome.

Woohoo! Solved the kopete issue so now everything seems to be working.
                      Great stuff.

Not in this thread, but please post, for the benefit of others, what you did to resolve the above. I believe you have another thread that this is addressed in? If 'yes,' then return to it and post your solution.

No, I won't pollute this thread but I did post the solution and [SOLVED] to the thread I started on that issue

Greetings from Guelph. It has been a while since I posted here, but I just wanted to say that I am using Kubuntu 10.04 Netbook Edition on my Asus EeePC 701 4G and it is wonderful. I have used Kubuntu on and off since Feisty Faun and I think this release is the best so far. Wireless, hotkeys, suspend, sound, everything works. Good job devs!
Kubuntu Netbook 10.04 on Asus EeePC 701, Lubuntu 10.04 and OpenSuse 11.3 on USB sticks,  Ubuntu 10.04 and WinXP on desktop.

I have to change my final grade for KLL from A to A+.

With KDE 4.5.1 my experience with KLL is the better than I've ever had with ANY OS/desktop. (With the exception of Win7, which I haven't used and probably never will.)

A-, actually. The only issue I had was that I needed to configure alsa and oss to output sound via pulse, which in turn plays on an alsa device. IMO, if pulse is the default sound server on kubuntu, it would be nice if all wrappers and configurations would be installed by default.

Nevertheless, after tuning the system to my needs, I now have a system which really rocks. Since I'm forced to use Windows at work, I increasingly start to miss my home desktop during work hours.
