Inspirion Mini 10 Install Issues (not sure if this is the right location)

    Hello...

I am totally new to Linux and have decided to attempt to install Kubuntu netbook 10.04 on my wifes mini for some testing. I have an issue though. I get to the point where it wants to verify the keyboard and I select next and the progress bar at the top freezes at 47% with the following text.

    "Scanning Disc... 47%"

It never gets past this. I attempted to install ubuntu netbook as well and pretty much the same thing...

    Please help!

See if the LiveCD you burned is OK. Boot the LiveCD again but this time choose the option which checks the CD itself. (The second or third one, I forget which).

      Hi GreyGeek...

I did as you suggested and there were no errors found. I previously thought maybe there was something wrong with the disc since it did host Windows 7 at one point. I took it out of the Mini and dropped it on my box and did a standard (not quick) format then cleaned all free sectors (data wipe) to start fresh but still have issues...

What else do you suggest I try?

try partitioning it with linux file system first ext3,4 and some swap space .

I would do 10-20 Gig's for / 2 Gigs for swap and the rest for /home

How can I do this from the boot disc? (in my case a USB)... I don't see an option for that (even under "advanced options").

zlow, thanks for the link. I reviewed the information but I'm not 100% sure what steps I need to take... Based on that it says to try a different USB stick (I did this before but will again). Other than that it doesn't really suggest anything... (unless I missed it).

No, I don not think it has been resolved yet. There is mention of it on the Ubuntu forum also (link), unfortunately what seems to have worked for some users is scrubbing the hard drive of all data. I'm not sure that is going to help you.

The last post in that thread though indicates that using a different tool to build the USB stick worked so that may be worth trying.

Hi zlow... It looks like I was able to get it to work by switching to a different USB stick. Thanks for the link! I appreciate the help.
