    The "www.kubuntu.org" page

I exclusively use Linux OSs in all my machines, it has been so for more than 15 years now. Since about 3 years ago I switched to Ubuntu, coming from Debian, and RedHat b4 that. I switched to Kubuntu more than a year ago. I find Kubuntu 10.04 to be my best Linix experience EVER, and I have plenty.

I have "changed" to Linux, and specially to Kubuntu, lots of people already, and plan to keep doing it!
I have personally installed Kubuntu into more machines than I can recall.

Now, having said all this, nobody can doubt my "faith" in Kubuntu. yet, I have this very simple question:

How is that the "www.kubuntu.org" web page is so, so... BAD!

It is really, really bad. Amazingly bad I would say. No no. INCREDIBLY bad!

The web site is the "business card" of the OS! ! !

If people coming into the page are expected to become "believers", specially those that come from Windows and Mac, the page *really* needs to be totally re-done. Take the www.ubuntu.com web page, that is a really good one!

I think it would do A LOT of good to the HUGE effort Kubuntu is to have a PROPER web page.

Are you with me on this one? Hope so, if so, please say so! Let us make this poll REALLY HUGE!

    Thanks for your time. Best!

    -Alberto.

I could not disagree with you more. I can't understand why you seem to think as you do.

While I agree it is far from terrible, and actually think it is mostly very nice, kubuntu.org's redesign is already being worked on, and I have seen it, Very nice

Though I don't know when it goes live, it looks pretty much finished as far as I could see.

Well, I think it lacks coherency, aesthetically speaking. The fonts, size of icons, etc. To me it lacks, and needs, a professional look, like Ubuntu.com

Of course all one needs is there to be found. I do not dispute that. I am thinking of the out-comer, the guy who visits from Mac or Win, and expects to see a certain professional look and organization. That is my point. I think it is an important issue that has an impact on the expansion of the community and the transformation of people into Kubuntu.

I just think the "looks and feels" of the website do not match those of the OS, Ubuntu.com achieves that.

I believe Kubuntu has reached an enormous degree of maturity and is deserving a much better selling card. Good news to me to hear they are actually redesigning it.

Actually the kubuntu.org website has had a number of redesigns over the years, do remember that Kubuntu basically has to do this themselves, Canonical does not do this for us as we are still a community supported distro for the most part

I do beg to differ on the look and feel, but I do realize this is always subjective for each person. In my opinion, Ubuntu's new site is too professional (corporate) in appearance for Kubuntu to want to copy too much

If I may make one observation...... The FAQs could do with an update

You're spot on on this. But I wouldn't be so "tragical" about that: I think that a simple rebranding (with the new "Kubuntu" font on the title banner (replacing the "old" one that is still in use) would be quite enough.
Oh well, maybe they should also remake the "Get Kubuntu", "Find Help" and "Contribute" with the new font

Also, I'd remove that red and blue "Download now" banner (honestly, the red colour has nothing to do with Kubuntu) and make it "one" with the news.. But I don't see anythignelse that needs to be changed.

Well, I'll try to arrange a screenshot of what I mean when I get back home

As I said, the remodel is nearly complete, I will see if it ok to post a screenshot or 2 of it

I voted yes, but in fairness ubuntu.com isn't any better IMHO.

I prefer en.opensuse.org's layout. Very easy to get to the wiki, forums, package search with just one click.

Of course, if the OP (or anyone else) REALLY thinks that they can contribute to making the site look better, all they have to do is get involved (please)!

really really I WILL post that screenshot, honest! I have been highly distracted by a major inspection @ work, and actually have been very little in front of a computer at home

I won't get home for another 8 hours or so, though

I think what probably stops many people from contributing is that they lack the context to discern for themselves whether or where their potential contribution will be accepted and appreciated. As far as art goes, I've seen some pretty nifty creations here in our own forums which ought to make the entire community proud.

I voted "Yes", not because the site is terribly ugly, but because every site should never be allowed to go stale. Actually, the site is quite informative and useful, in a factual sense. Could it be prettier? Maybe, at least it works and is designed to be informative. There doesn't seem to be anything obscure about the information or its presentation. It's not particularly flashy, THANKFULLY. There are way too many sites that spend a lot of energy, and my resources, being bright and full of bling.
