I have a new computer at work and it was installed with Kubuntu 10.4. I have been using Kubuntu at home for several years, since around release 5 or 6 of Kubuntu and have not had this problem.
When I edit enter my login shell as /bin/bash, KDE starts up normally. When I enter the shell as /usr/bin/tcsh, KDE starts to come up, i.e. the normal wait cursor comes up for about 2 seconds, then the login screen returns. I have tried putting logging messages into my .cshrc file and in the system /etc/csh.cshrc and I can see that both of those are being run before KDE returns to the login screen.
I am suspicious that in this case, I have permissions as an 'adm' but not root, but this may have nothing to do with my problem. However,
when I tried to use K-Package to install tcsh, it would not allow me to and it said that I do not have authorization. When I tried using, "apt-get install tcsh", tcsh got installed.
Are there any ideas on what I can try?
