    grub not recognising windows XP

I recently installed Kubuntu 10.04 on a laptop with a work windows XP operating system. The XP partition is still on the disk but grub has not recognised it and not made a boot option for it although it has recognized a former windows 7 partition which was rendered inoperable when windows XP was installed.

I have tried cloning the windows 7 grub.cnf entry for the XP partition but this does not work.

I have searched for similar issues but did not find anything equivalent but I just wondered before I start installation again from scratch where there are know issues in this area. I have never had any such grub problems before and have installed many machines.

    Thanks

    have you tried ruining
    Code:
    sudo update-grub
and see if it gets it this time.

you shouldn't half to do a reinstall ....but it may get fun fixing things.

any way lets start with what the disk looks like so post the output of
    Code:
    sudo fdisk -l
that is a lower case L
