Okay, I just tried to do the upgrade via network, after which I saw some vague warnings that some packages might not have installed correctly and whatnot. It really wasn't very specific at all. After rebooting I get a message at the splash screen:
Serious errors were found while checking the disk drive for /mnt/sdc1
Press I to ignore, S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery
I don't really care about /sdc1 at the moment so I press "S."
An error occurred while mounting /
Press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery
Great >.
I press F3 to see if I can tell what's going on:
[ 12.723056] nForce2_smbus 0000:00:01.1: Error probing SMB2
[ 13.733177] REISERFS error (device sda1): vs-4080 _reiserfs_free_block: block 11340005: bit already cleared
init: mounted-tmp main process (654) terminated with status 1
mountall: Event failed
mount : /dev/sda1: can't read superblock
mountall: mount / [922] terminated with status 32
mountall: Filesystem could not be mounted: /
Wow! That's actually helpful! Okay... "M" it is. I type "reiserfsck --rebuild-sb /dev/sda1" at the prompt and it says the superblock is fine . Or, actually what it says is it "seems okay." Whatever.
So I tried the standard --fix-fixable because it did find a few things that were a little off. It fixed them and I rebooted.
Guess what my screen says right now . That's right:
An error occurred while mounting /
Press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery
I did search, but I didn't find anything that looked like what I'm experiencing. At least not as far as I could tell. If there is a similar post you know of please point the way. Otherwise, I'm pretty much lost as to how to proceed now. If anybody has any ideas or questions I'd very much appreciate your input.
Have fun.
