    how to chmod from LiveCD

This is related to the frozen mouse/keyboard.

    Link: http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3114588.0

On my installation, the Grub menu never displayed. In viewing it now, I see this line in the Grub file:

    GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0

...from all I have searched, it needs to be:

    #GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=0

...so the Grub menu will display.

I guess here is what I am thinking... If I reboot to the original and frozen set, if the Grub Menu actually displays, I can maybe open in Recovery mode to be able to repair the original install.

    My question is:

How can I chmod the Grub file so I can save edits from the LiveCD?

    thanks...

Did you try holding down the shift key while booting?

Holding down the Shift key did nothing...

I created a new partition and have 10.10 installed, am using it now to reply here. However, I would like to use 10.04 instead. The main reason is that I like to have multiple desktops with a different wallpaper for each. I have yet to find how to do that in 10.10. arrrgggghhhhh...

Soooo, with 10.10 installed, I now have a Grub Menu. Each time I boot to the previous kernels, there is a Ubuntu splash screen before the Login screen. At the Login screen the mouse and keyboard are frozen.

OK, how can I get 10.04 operational again?

      thanks..

        If you run
        Code:
        sudo update-grub
from a terminal, in your new 10.10 installation, it should pick up the 10.04 OS and put it on the menu. Does it?

yes, 10.04 is there, but when I highlight and hit Enter to boot to the hard drive partition that holds 10.04, I still have the frozen mouse and keyboard.

As to your original question, boot into the host OS, chroot into the target OS and then enter the following commands:

            http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...4660#msg244660

            You now have total access.

Or to get different widgets on different desktops on the latest KDE I find SystemSettings - Workspace - Show an independent widet set works for the desktops as well although it says it is only for the dashboard. Mind, I use vanilla KDE so your mileage may vary...

Thank you all for your help!

On a side note, one of the reasons I was not liking 10.10 was because I could not find a way to have multiple desktops. Well, I finally found where one can add multiple desktops... right mouse click on top of an existing desktop and then add a "Virtual Desktop".

Soooooo, I will probably now go with 10.10 and transfer everything, etc. arrrrgggghhhhh...
