If you really need a root terminal (and know what you're doing), you can get one without enabling the root account by using the command 'sudo -i' (which behaves like 'su').

Re: logging out and shutting down/restarting

when ever I use the super user account the problem does not persist. It is only when shutting down or restarting.
so I enter sudo i want my internet to work/ -i of course this is not real code, and it works I enter my SU password and we are go. I install anything I want to. but when I try to shut this dagum box down for some reason it will not accept the password. >

Re: logging out and shutting down/restarting

I just opened a terminal and typed su and it said root had to be installed. so I installed, entered su again and got the cp to say root@mycomputer#
I am hoping when i restart at the end of my shift, watching the baby, I will be able to enter my password and restart.
        cross ur fingirs guys.
