No global keyboard shortcuts work, at all

I stopped using KDE after 4.1 because Kubuntu at that time was a pretty terrible distribution. I have been growing tired of the inability for me to configure gnome-panel though and gnome-shell has dependencies requirements that interfere with mongodb which I need for some of the Rails projects I am working on. I decided to install KDE 4.5. I am running Ubuntu Lucid Lynx, so I followed the following instructions:

    http://www.geekyard.com/os/linux-os/...04-lucid-lynx/

I rebooted and logged into KDE to find that Alt+Tab, Alt+F2, Alt+F4, Alt+F10 nor any other global shortcut I have found in the 'Global Shortcuts' configuration box actually work!! I have seen people with similar issues who have run setxkbmap to fix the problem, but this doesn't help.

Others reassign the default shortcut from Alt+Tab, but no matter what I set on any shortcut key, nothing works. 90% of the time I use keyboard shortcuts, and not the slow inefficient GUI methods. Must I go back to GNOME or is there a fix for this mindlessness?

Are you using KDM or GDM ?

if GDM switch to KDM and see if that helps or not !!

having both Gnome and KDE on the same system can sometimes cause quirks ......that sead I have at times done just that and although I don't have the Gnome desktop anymore I do have a lot of gnome stuff on hear still.

O and my key binding's work as expected !

to switch to KDM and see if that helps.................

Is "kglobalaccel" running? (that is the kded service that handles global shortcuts)
