    the old restricted DVD problem

    Hi
    10.04.1 LTS
I have install Kbuntu on an older machine; this includes the "restricted" option
but when asking to play a commercial DVD, vlc blips the led a few times and dies with this error:
    main error: ES_OUT_RESET_PCR called
    repeat 3 times

there must be a solution out there - will some one direct me to it please.

    thank you for your time

Assuming your own responsibility for the laws in your region, you may want to visit Medibuntu

Re: the old restricted DVD problem

I had the same trouble with VLC trying to watch a Deep Space 9 DVD Region code 1. The problem was that I installed the restricted content, but forgot to run the libdvdcss script which enables "protected" DVD playback:

      sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

      from the webpage:

      https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats

Install the Restricted Formats extras package from the link on the above page then the libdvdcss script.

I have seen some newer DVD's that have "structure protection" which does some funny things with the .VOB files and menu structure. VLC hates some of these discs. If your DVD does not play check that.

Above link may have fix for this type of problem.
