I can now start firefox from both krummer and konsole
I right-clicked on the K-menu and went into the "KDE menu editor." There I scrolled down to "internet" and created a new shortcut for firefox. I selected the firefox icon by browsing to the folder where firefox is installed. From then, simply clicking ALT+F2 (i.e. launching krummer, thanks claydoh for your explanation) does bring up a valid firefox shortcut, and I can now launch the program from krummer.
