Google Chrome no longer in repositories?

I recently did a fresh install of Kubuntu 10.04.

In kpackagekit, a simple search for "chrome" does not return Chrome.

I searched for "google" and got about 20 hits but none were Chrome.

Chrome was in repositories in 9.10.

this is my sources.list in /etc/apt:

    Code:
    #deb cdrom:[Kubuntu 10.04 LTS _Lucid Lynx_ - Release i386 (20100427)]/ lucid main restricted

    Hello finny388

Just calm down, it is actually there (At least as "chromium")

Did you activate repositories (universe, multiverse, etc.) in KpackageKit? If not, go into Kpackagekit settings and do it. (You seem to have enabied them. So take this as an information for newbies)

Open a Konsole and do an apt-get update:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
After that, just say the magic word there
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install chromium-browser
If you don't want to use it in english, download the language pack too:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install chromium-browser-l10n

P.s. FYI, Chromium and Google Chrome are actually identical (except that chromium is developed as an open source project and its icon has a cool bluish color).

    Regards.

        Some useful info here

        http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1351541

It would appear that if you get the Chrome deb file from the google website and install it, it puts the google repo into your sources list.

Of course whether you see that as desirable is a personal choice

That is correct -- I installed Chrome on my sidux system, from the downloaded .deb, and here is what it added to my /etc/apt/sources.d directory:

          ### THIS FILE IS AUTOMATICALLY CONFIGURED ###
          # You may comment out this entry, but any other modifications may be lost.
          deb http://dl.google.com/linux/deb/ stable main
I must say it is noticeably lighter than Firefox -- starts faster and uses noticeably less CPU resources.

I agree, although I also use it at work with Win XP, and I've seen it trip up on some pages where I need to input data - it doesn't seem to handle javascript in quite the same way.

Yes, I have seen the occasional bug, too. For example, it fails every time on my login to this forum -- makes me re-enter my password, even though I've never put in the wrong one. But, I'll take the speed and light weight, even with a bug or two.

dibl, I don't have that problem. It logs in automatically. One of us must have some setting different from the other. Try an extension called "LastPass".

Re: Google Chrome no longer in repositories?

Actually I don't either, and I don't have any relevant extensions in that regard either.
I assume you have set it up to save the passwords, and autofill etc under options/personal stuff, but will ask the question anyway

                    Thanks!

Yes, mine is 100% default -- I have had no time to play around with anything, except to set the "home" tabs that I want. I'll give the extension a try tonight -- I like the name of it!

@Liquidator, same answer -- whatever it came in with as default is what I have. Funny that other websites are happy with the saved password, but not this one. I've got a feeling that "LastPass" will help .....

Re: Google Chrome no longer in repositories?

Update: LastPass extension does not fix the issue with KFN login. It's odd -- I have at times just tabbed through my login and password and it has worked. Mostly I need to enter the password and hit Enter and then it works.

I would not know how to do that, unless it was installed that way by default. I'm studying the options now.

EDIT: Cookies is set to the first bullet "Allow local data to be set" -- I think that is the default.

"Offer to save passwords" is checked, also "Enable Autofill"

Just installed Chrome - running it now.

I logged out of KFN in Konqueror before launching Chrome and navigating to KFN. I typed in my username and typed in my password. By default, KFN has Auto-Login checked. I left that alone and pressed Enter. Chrome asked if I wanted it to remember/save my password. I said yes.

I logged out of KFN, and then click on Log In. My username and password were already filled it, and I pressed Enter. I'm back in KFN. So, at least here, and this is a default, no changes made, install of Chrome, there is no problem with saved/remembered username/password for KFN.

Chrome is faster than Konqueror. I haven't compared it to Firefox yet. So far it seems like a vary capable browser.
