    can't log in - plasma-desktop problems

I have just upgraded to 10.04 from 9.10 and I'm not happy about it
The logging screen loads ok and after I enter password it tries to open the session but stops and gets back to... logging screen. What's interesting - after this trial I can't change to text-console (Ctrl+Alt+F1 doesn't work - goes back to logging screen), although when I don't try to log in, I am able to switch to the console.

I've checked .xsession-errors and I get some errors from kdeinit4, like:
    Code:
     plasma-desktop: cannot connect to X server :0
Also, when I switch to text-console, there is a message:
    Code:
chroot: cannot execute /etc/apparmor/initramfs: No such file or directory
    Can anybody help?

    Re: can't log in - plasma-desktop problems

    Couple of points:

How did you upgrade (internet, using alternate cd as an upgrade source, or with a fresh install but retained home)?

Do you know the version number of kde you were running in karmic?

There are a couple of things you can try:

Ensure you have a wired connection then boot into recovery mode, from the command prompt update everything with
    Code:
    sudo apt-get update
    and then
    Code:
    sudo apt-get dist-uograde
    Once everything is updated type

    Code:
    startx
What happens then? Do you get a desktop? If not please post the error message. If successful, try a reboot and login as normal user.

    Any joy?

      [SOLVED] can't log in - plasma-desktop problems

thank you for a quick reply but I have already fixed this - it appeared that my grub list hasn't been updated while updating the system (don't know why), so I had to do it manually and it works!
      good day to you!
