    Screen resolution not remembered

    Hi Guys

Just upgraded to the latest Kubuntu release, I have noticed that a number of applications no longer work.
The first one I have noticed is the monitor settings, I don't seem to be able to set the resolution of the monitor, so that it will be default. When the PC is switched off, the original resolution comes up instead of the new default I have set.

Also in Games, the penguin solitaire set is not available, I have tried uninstalling it in the synaptic package manager and re-installing it, without any success, there is a question mark in the applications list, and a file is present in the root directory, but the application will not respond.

These are just the first couple of things I have come across after the new system re-boot, can anyone comment on them please.

    Re: Screen resolution not remembered

I have had the screen resolution resetting problem with every release of Kubuntu since KDE 4.x was first introduced. I don't worry about it anymore just reset the screen resolution via System Settings on startup to the desired value. It only takes a few seconds.

It would be nice if a fix could be suggested but I first posted this problem at least 18 months ago & no one has come up with an answer yet.

      Re: Screen resolution not remembered

If I remember correctly this has been discussed here on a few occasions.

It may be a video card issue, so maybe you could post your tech. specs?

      Conversely, have a look here:

Hope that points you in the right direction.

        Re: Screen resolution not remembered

The only one I think it's reliable is editing the Xsession file to modify the screen resolution and refresh rate if deemed necessary.

I have the same issue and have decided that the workaround of choice for me is Phil's suggestion--change it to what I want each time I log in.

I need to go update my post with issues but I experienced the screen resolution problem with both Jaunty and karmic. Not a deal breaker for me but somewhat mysterious that this issue has been around for so long for so many.

Anyway, good luck, there are at least 3 different approaches to solve this, which I suppose is one of the upsides of linux.

          cheers,
