    No sound in non-KDE applications

    Hi,

    After I did a fresh install of Kubuntu 10.04, the sound in all non-KDE applications (eg VLC and Firefox) is broken. Sound in KDE applications like Amarok and Dragon Player works perfectly.

    Here is some info about my system:
    Code:
    $ lspci|grep audio
    05:01.0 Multimedia audio controller: C-Media Electronics Inc CM8738 (rev 10)
    I have PulseAudio installed and VLC tries to use it:
    Code:
    $ vlc foo.avi
    ...
    [0x8bb9770] pulse audio output: No. of Audio Channels: 2
    I am not able to get any useful error messages nor from dmesg nor from any of the failing applications.

    Does anybody have any idea about what could be the problem?

    Just a first aid. Are you sure your PCM slider is up? (click speakers icon in panel > KMix)
    Kubuntu 16.04 on two computers and Kubuntu 17.04 on DELL Latitude 13
