ASUS 1005PE (eeePC) / problems after upgrade from karmic koala

    Hallo Community,

I experienced a few problems after upgrading from Karmic Koala to 10.4...

    (A) The most annoying is the light density of the background light. The display was VERY bright using the power management of Karmic Koala, with 10.4 it is at the maximum setting almost unreadable, turning it one step down it gets readable, but not acceptable. I tied to disable the Power Management, but the howto I found in the internet does not work with 10.4.

    (B) There is NO sound anymore...

    (C) has nothing to do with the upgrade - I could not find a way to change KDE from Netbook to normal mode?

If you can give me hints to solve A + B I will be happy again . Thank you!

    Hallo on board

    (B) If you have ALSA sound, try if you have ALSA driver in system
    Code:
    aplay -l
If you really have a driver, try
    Code:
    alsamixer
Maybe only some sliders are muted like on my netbook Acer Aspire D 150-1.

    (C) If you installed netbook remix I don't know if there is a way. I installed normal Kubuntu and I have normal KDE mode.

It is the NETBOOK edition, but I want to intall the full edition, I do not like the netbook remix...

Thank you for the hint with the alsamixer! I tried with KMIX but this made no difference? I thought they are controlling the same way...

Now there is still A open.

Using the full distro is probably your problem.

        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Netbook_Edition
Ubuntu Netbook Edition (UNE) (known as Ubuntu Netbook Remix prior to the release of 10.04) is a version of the Ubuntu Linux distribution that has been optimized to enable it to work better on netbooks and other devices with small screens or with the Intel Atom computer processor.

UNE has been available since Ubuntu release 8.04 ("Hardy Heron"). UNE is an optional preinstalled operating system (OS) on some netbooks such as Dell Inspiron Mini 10v and the Toshiba NB100, and also runs on popular models such as the Acer Aspire One and the Asus Eee PC.

Before 10.04 it was known as Ubuntu Netbook Remix (UNR).

Canonical, the company that is behind Ubuntu, is collaborating with Moblin project to ensure optimization for lower hardware requirements and higher battery life.[5]

My brother just purchased the Asus 1005H and I downloaded and played with the UNE to see how it works before I help him install it. I was pleasantly surprised. While I prefer the KDE4 desktop over the GNOME DE, the way Canonical configured the UNE GNOME desktop was rather neat!
In fact, the UNE DE is now my 2nd favorite DE!

I have installed the kubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 and the upgrade to 10.04 has been done by the packet manger!

However there is still the issues with the backlight of the screen. It is far too dark to operate normal. At 9.10 the dimmer worked properly and the backligt was almoast to bright. (A)

To run the full edition is just a like of the operator, I dont get used to the netbook gimmiks.

I decided not to install Network Remix, because there was a lot of complains about it last year. Someone warn on this forum, that it was less stable than normal version. Maybe it is better now, but I am not in the mood to solve more problems than I have to deal with normal version.
