    firefox & broken downloads<solved>

everything is working perfectly since I did a fresh install of Lucid. heck I even upgraded to the newest Nvidia driver & no problems. my only problem now seems to be with FireFox. It browses just fine. I'm using it now....
the problem is with downloads. it just wont download for me! did they change something in the new version? I Always back-up my /home & I did restore it after installing LL. Hmmm Any Ideas? Frank

It might help if you explained more what the problem is.
I also have a problem with the downloads, about 50% of the time, but I can't tell if it's the same as yours. Right clicking on something and picking "Save [...] as" does nothing, nor does any download option from the "video downloadhelper" extension except "Download & convert". Going by File>Save page as always works even then.

problem was - right click save as. did nothing ie: no download window pops up or anything.
seems it was a permissions issue with firefox. once I changed permissions firefox now works perfectly.
as a side note, after I changed ownership to me - rebooted and got an error about .kde share not being writable. seems it was owned by root? fixed that & now everything seems fine.

That means that at some point you started a GUI application from the console using sudo and then started doing things in your users /home directory. Very bad. This is how a users permissions in their /home directory get changed to root, and on a reboot, you can't login.

What permissions did you change, on what files?

I've never ran a GUI app with sudo on this installation, so this probably isn't my problem though...
