Cannot Access ttys after last batch of updates 10.04

    Howdy All,

So I just did the last batch of updates to my Kubuntu system and these included a kernel update - I manually install my nVidia drivers from the .run package and for some reason I can no longer access my tty logins from which I would reinstall the drivers from...

I press ctrl+alt+f1-4 and all I get is a frozen image of my X server - not a tty login. Any suggestions? I really want to play my games again

/sigh I guess I should know better after three years of using Ubuntu than to run kernel updates.

    Help!

After a kernel update - new kernel - have you rebooted yet?

Yes. I am not totally new here - guess I should have mentioned that. I have the system booted into the new kernel under the vesa driver, but I would like to be able to reinstall my nvidia driver but cannot access my ttys for whatever odd reason.

I'm really new. This is how I did it. I don't know if this is recommended but it worked for me.
I re-booted into recovery mode for the new kernel.
Selected: Repair broken packages. (Don't now if that did anything for me).
        Selected: Resume normal boot.
At tty1 login I followed dibls post that I had printed. (I start at the March 5 2010 edit)

I received an error or warning at the beginning of the driver build. I selected ok, or continue.
Everything went smooth and I logged into display.

EDIT: (Don't now if that did anything for me)....My tty was back.
