Re: Ugly boot splash - ati or nvidia drivers <Work Around>

Same problem here. I just did a clean install this morning & everything looked good until I installed the Nvidia drivers... uggh
Anyways, after alot of editing config files & sudo update-grub.
it seems to be a problem with Nvidia x settings & plymouth not playing well together... ;(
I did finaly get it to work & I have a Hi-res boot splash now!
as well as a Hi-Res Grub menu... seems like a lot of hacking just for a 1/2sec glimps of the boot splash though.... lol
anyways, it's working now & I'm afraid to even breathe on my config files.... hehehe

Final check -- try Ctrl-Alt-F1. Do you have tty consoles?

Good.

I dual boot Kubuntu and sidux, using Kubuntu's Grub 2. The linked solution for Kubuntu/plymouth works great. But sidux does not have uvesafb kernel support (or plymouth), so I'm kinda hosed if I try using the recommended kernal option in Grub to boot sidux. But, I found a combination that gets me by with a low-res tty console in sidux.

Glad t hear that it works for you!
I just wish that Nvidia would start supporting Linux....
BTW just a side note: I have been using Linux since the old days IE: Mandrake 7.0
<----- not so much a newbie I just don't post much....
Edit: it seems that Plymouth likes 1024x768 although i run my desktop @ 1440x900? Hmm

Oh but that's still a valid option, it's the solution to get a lightning fast system with remarkable stability.

Yes, it sure does. And it doesn't like much else, as far as I can tell, if you are using an Nvidia card.

Probably Nvidia would say they do support Linux. But of course they don't support "open" or "GPL" or anything like that. I also wish they would reconsider that -- if the open source community had the specs for their design, there would probably be some fantastic drivers written in a fairly short while.

Strange thing here, for whatever it's worth --
amd64, dual NVIDIA cards.
I could not get the splash screen to work nohow.
I went back to the old kernel options, 'nomodeset vga=794' Guess what? Perfect splash screen, perfect text screens! I hope this makes as little sense to everyone else as it does to me...

I'm old - I still use vim!
