    Boot Screen

I'm one of those that installed the Beta and upgraded incrementally until the final version. However, I was told that the Ubuntu brown boot screen was there as it was still beta and that the artwork for Kubuntu wasn't quite complete but would be available upon final release. I'm still stuck with that brown ugly boot screen upon boot even if I'm running the final version. Any reason why?

Verify you're loading KDM and not GDM and check your theme settings

      Re: Boot Screen

I never had GDM. Like I said, this only changed when I upgraded to the beta of 10.04. Through incremental updates, I reached the final however, the boot screen from the beta remains.

        Re: Boot Screen

As far as I remember, the bootscreen is cached. Sounds like you need to delete the old one manually.

I have been trying to find the right info, but could not find it right now. But it should at least give you something to search for.

My main computer has been gradually upgraded from 9.10 via Beta1 till release, I've seen all screens from 9.10 via brown to purple to badly rendered Kubuntu and now have the proper blue Kubuntu one.
In other words, you'll have to check your system settings regarding the boot screen.

I must be blind or something, but I can't find it under system settings. I'm wondering if it's not some configuration file that needs editing. I dislike the ugly half brown boot screen that starts up. Might try updating grub to see if that fixes it.

              Re: Boot Screen

the bootsplash setup (not grub) for kdm is

              System Settings> Login Manager

              the config file is /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc

                Re: Boot Screen

If the bootsplash (if we are talking about the same thing) is cached, there is nothing you can change in the settings that will help.

I had this on one of the KDE upgrades - I knew there should be a new background, but the old one still showed. I am still trying to find the message with the solution... So many messages, so little time...

Basically, it was as simple as finding the right folder and delete the image that was cached there and I got the correct one on the next boot.

                  Re: Boot Screen

Thanks for the help guys. I had other issues like sound problems with VLC along with some error messages dealing drive issues and error accessing sector sor (noticed the same error on another machine I upgraded) so I finally decided to do a clean install (have been upgrading over the years). I didn't touch my home partition, just the / and /usr partitions I wiped and clean installed. I now have the fresh new Kubuntu boot splash and even the VLC issue and sound has been solved somehow.
