I've only been trying to get samba to work right on my netbook for weeks. Netbook quits broadcasting its name after about ten minutes and although the netbook has a static IP when it's on my network I just wanted the thing to work properly.
Anyway, nmbd kept dying after about ten minutes no matter what I did - I've been in smb.conf about a billion times and it finally dawned on me what the problem was - or at least what I think it was. So far, so good.
About 99% of the time this netbook connects through its wireless interface (eth1) and I've only overlooked this a few dozen times, but...
; interfaces = 127.0.0.0/8 eth0
should be
interfaces = 127.0.0.0/8 eth0 eth1
I hate it when I mess around for weeks and the solution is this damn obvious. Grrr.
