    Network Printing

    Hi

I'll try to explain everything the best I can. About 4 months ago I bought a IOGEAR Print server. That is on a Canon MP830. My DHCP server was being run on a PF-SENSE Boxs at the time. Over my network. I have had the DHCP server give the printer server a specific address like 192.168.1.5 by the MAC address. and on Kubuntu I would add the printer by using that address, I would print over TCP/IP. I'm hoping this makes sense, But now I had to shut my PFSENSE boxs down cause it was over heating cause of the hot days and nights. Now I have a linksys router Thats doing all the work that is running DD-WRT. For some reason I can't assign the print server a specific IP address. Even thou I can find the IP address in the tables and add it to the setup for the printer I still can't get it to print. I tried configuring it for SAMBA and still nothing. I know samba works cause I use it for my file sharing. I also know that the print server works cause My XP and Windows 7 can print to it. I'm wondering if I have something configured wrong?? I never changed anything on the print server the settings are still the same. If there is something that you didnt understand please ask I'm trying the best I can thanks and hope some one can help. by the way printer works fine when its hooked directly to my computer.

    Thanks for any help

I'm still trying to understand clearly. Do you mean assign the print server a specific IP address on the router?

It sounds like the problem is with a change in handling of the DHCP. The Linksys should have a place to define the valid range for DHCP addresses and that may be where the solution lies. It is possible (I do it) to give a small range for DHCP and make the rest static.

I have a Linksys which I created a DD-WRT Then I added a printer server with a fixed IP address.

      I used the instuctions here - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=516747

          Strange. This link works here.

Hmm, sorry, I don't want to hijack this thread on this account but ... I have been trying that link numerous times since it was posted and it just sits there. I've not had any other problem on the net in that time. If there is a problem on my end, it is certainly unusual and warrants looking into.

The link works correctly here (Ohio, USA). Sounds like a network problem on the left coast.
