No Internet Connection Available After GRUB

Once the boot process starts and it doesn't find any active modem with available internet connection, it lets me log onto my LL box and everything seems to be fine until I see the network manager doesn't let me connect to the Internet even after I made sure the modem online signal indicator is on again. After several attempts to check the modem real connection status I determined it was working properly and I should be able to connect to the Internet... but network manager doesn't let me do it...

What should I do in order to get network manager find that connection under such circumstances?

When you say "modem" are you talking about a dialup modem, or your ethernet device or a wireless device?

OK, let's start by posting the output ot
        Code:
        ifconfig -a
        and

        Code:
        cat /etc/network/interfaces
