The same system that I wrote about here has an Intel D845GRG motherboard with 845G onboard graphics. Everything works well for the most part except that it can't seem handle 3D acceleration very well at all. Glxinfo claims that direct rendering is enabled (see below.) That includes a good portion of the games available in the repositories. Even Emilia Pinball doesn't work.
When I've tried to run any of these 3D applications, the screen turns black and then the upper half starts blinking white. At that point I have to shut it down using the power button since it won't respond to anything else. Upon restart everything works fine.

Is there any way to fix this problem apart from installing a separate AGP graphics card? Or is this chipset simply unable to handle intensive acceleration?

Is there any way to fix this problem apart from installing a separate AGP graphics card? Or is this chipset simply unable to handle intensive acceleration?
