The wireless switch (Fn+F8) never seemed to operate in lunix, so I cannot see how it can have been turned off. I am going to do some research at Toshiba if there is another option for this.
I did check the BIOS, it does not have on/off wireless control.

Fn+F8 is a 'software' toggle. I was referring to the actual switch on the laptop - there is one; there is on my Toshiba Satellite P105-S6147. Check it. It may have inadvertently been moved to the off position.
