Not sure where this really belongs. I'm running lucid and kde 4.5.1 from backports, but I've had this problem since installation when I think kde was 4.0 or 4.1. Playing audio through amplified external speakers.
System bell from a text terminal is about 50 times as loud as kde notifications or audio. If I set kmix and external speaker volume to a comfortable level for system notifications or kde application audio, system bell from a text terminal just about knocks me out of my chair. If I turn the external speaker volume down to a level where I can live with the system bell, any desktop audio is inaudible even with kmix at 100%.
Google finds me lots of links about how to either disable the system bell, or to route it through external speakers, alsa, etc, but that's not what I need. I want to route it through the internal speaker so I can keep it separate from desktop audio in kde. I found xset, but that doesn't help when I'm at a text terminal.
I figure this is just a configuration issue, but I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for. Has anybody else run into this?
