    iPod not recognized

I have a 5th gen iPod, and when I plug it in, I get the "do not disconnect" message on the screen, and Kubuntu recognizes it as a hard drive, but it doesn't show up in either gtkpod or Amarok. I have the latest versions of both programs, but it won't show up and I would appreciate some suggestions.

I haven't managed to find any other threads about this issue for some reason.

No there wasn't anything in that article that would help me out. That article was mostly about syncing an iPod touch or iPhone wirelessly. I'm trying to sync an iPod classic with a cable. Plus the page was a couple years old so it was referring to outdated versions of software.

Well, I installed podsleuth, seemed to be the only thing that got the others working. However, amarok doesnt play nice with my ipod 2gig shuffle, so I tried banshee. Its not what I particularly wanted, trying to stay away from mono as much as I can, but nothing else works short of rhythmbox. When I used ubuntu that wasnt an issue, but im testing out kde and am really trying to stick to the kde world as much as I can But Im just a newbie, so I think Im just naive. Hope that helps.

See http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...47.0;topicseen and PM snowflake_nz as to what she did to get her ipod working with Kubuntu.

Here is the link I used to get my iPhone syncing under linux with gtkPod. It should also work with you iPod.

I don't believe the new Amarok has support for external media devices (yet). I am stuck using gtkPod.

                Re: iPod not recognized

gtkpod has a good wiki at http://www.gtkpod.org/wiki/Getting_started.

It appears there is some tweaking needed to get an iPod interface to work and actually work.

The i* empire sometimes doesn't play nice with Linux, although there are many claims of it "just working". Inconsistency is hard to explain and hard to deal with.
