    DVD Drive Issues

So Kubuntu is pretty easy to set up, and after a minor setback having to do with video drivers, the only issues I seem to be having on a new installation seems to be access to my dvd drive.

Currently I have 2, and older Sony IDE DVD-RW that I used to install the system, and a newer SATA DV-RW that I've been using for DVD backups and the like.

My problem is that disks will only read if I put them in the SATA drive and not the older IDE drive. The device is listed in /dev as /dev/sr0 and it seems to show up as a viable option in application that asks for a location, but any disk that I put in that drive is never recognized as being inserted by the system. My SATA drive is listed as /dev/sr1, and if I whenever I put a disk in there it reads fine, but I would like to be able to have 2 dvds going at a time.

I'm very new to all this stuff, and I can't even think what other information might be useful. I checked all the forums and used google to see if I could find a solution to this somewhere else, but don't seem to be able to find anything. I think I must have all the right packages installed for playback as when a CD or DVD is in the SATA drive it works.

Any help would be appreciated, and if there is more specific information that you need, please let me know and I will do my best to get it to you. I may now know all that is going on though, as I said, I'm fairly new at all this.

Welcome to the forums! I have experienced a similar problem with mixed IDE and SATA but never found a solution. So I'll be watching this thread.
