[Solved]No sound on SIS S17012-Or how do I turn IEC off?

I have installed 10.04 on a old amd sempron machine with a sis s17012 sound card.

I have no sound although the user is in the audio group, kmix is unmuted and the channels show.

amixer looks normal as well.

I found this but not sure what to do with the info:

I am not using pulse, just alsa

Well, that's what Sherlock-tux does - he "see's what others do not."

I just searched (Google) on sis s17012 and looked at what I thought might be promising. The link I provided was actually on the first page of Google 'hits' that were reported.
