[solved]Strange video card behavior with a "new" machine

Okay, I trying to set up and old asus amd sempron 32bit machine with kubuntu10.04.

It has an onboard video chip:
Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 661/741/760 PCI/AGP or 662/761Gx PCIE VGA Display Adapter

set at 128mb in bios.

and a ati 9250 pro card on PCI.

With my monitor hooked up to the ati I can run my live cd just fine adn3d is activated.
After install and before it gets to the grub boot at boot I get "cannot read signal" as if my monitor is not being recognized.

When I hook up the mointor to the onboard chip I have to remove the ATI card. This works, sort of. I can boot but the screen gives me bunch of lines when watching a video and everything is very slow.

How can I get my ati card to work?

the 9250 is a legacy card, and should be covered by the ati driver, have you checked the bios to see what int first display is set as?

You should be able, in the BIOS, to disable the onboard video chip. This is (generally) required when a video card is installed. Disabling the onboard video will then allow the video card to be used.

Okay, thanks guys. I had to set my bios chipset agp to pci/agp and aperture to 128.

Now for my sound issue :P
