    [SOLVED] Touchpad will not move

I have Lucid on a netbook and my cursor will not move when I try to use the touchpad. The funny thing is that the buttons still work but I have to move the mouse via Alt-F12 (mouse emulation).

I tried rebooting but it doesn't make a difference.

    I'm using Kubuntu 10.04
    on an Asus EeePC Seashell
    with 1GB of RAM
    32 bit ATOM processor

P.S. I'm new to this forum. Sorry if I am missing info or put this in the wrong forum.

Actually, now that you mention it, that is another problem. My touchpad disabler button doesn't even work. Even if I do sudo acpi-listen it doesn't even recognize my touchpad disabler button.

If anybody has any ideas as to what's going wrong OR how to fix it, they would be greatly appreciated.

Are you saying that the touchpad control in system settings does not turn it on?

          Yes.
Even if I go into system settings and turn the touchpad off (and check "allow moving") it doesn't work, and when I turn it back on, it doesn't work.

            Do you have

            xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
            and
            kcm-touchpad

            installed?

Open Synaptics and enter "touchpad" in the search bar. Click on the first column ("s") to sort them by installation and put installed apps at the top of the list. If their boxes are green they are installed.

Two questions: First, Have you installed any new software recently? Second, was it working at one time and then suddenly stopped?

Now a statement: Have you tried booting to live media or to your Windows partition to see if it is working there?

First, I don't think I have installed any new software right before it stopped working.

Second, yes, at one time it worked fairly well, but I've never been able to get two-finger scrolling to work.

                yes, it works in Windows.

The output is no longer needed. You have configured something in KDE or another application that is disabling your touchpad when you log in.

I haven't the slightest clue to what's causing your problem, but, based on general troubleshooting principals, I'd look through "System Settings" (taking notes as I went) until something worked (or your computer bursts into flames).

Please report your solution, back here, when you find it, so that other folks won't have to go through the same thing.

OK, here's my idea. It seems that other users (root, in particular) have the touchpad working on their account on this computer, but some settings in my account are keeping the touchpad from moving.

So, what I need from y'all is a way to copy all settings related to the touchpad/mouse from another user's account to mine. If I can't copy it from root, I have another user on my machine that I can try.

Is there anyone who knows how to do this?

I solved this by accident. At least in my case it had to with the sensitivity of the touchpad.

You have to go to System Settings - Keyboard & Mouse

In the touchpad section you have to adjust 'Touch Sensitivity'. I set mine to the next stop from Low. And it started working again.
