KDE Sound Notification stopped working after alsa driver fix

    hello,

I have done fresh Install 10.04 on dell-1710 laptop and sound was working fine.
Few days ago I tried Skype but internal mic was not working so I googled and found
    this https://help.ubuntu.com/community/So...otingProcedure
I followed that and noticed that KDE Sound Notification have stopped working the internal mic
also have not got fixed. However if I play any music files through any of the players
it works fine but while booting it gives message "Analog device ALC268 does not work"
this popup notification is only at KDE startup.

I would like to get both notification sounds and internal mic working.

Can somebody help me in this regards ?
Please tell me any other information you need to help me out.

    Thanks and best regards

    Raja

Please check your settings in K>"System Settings">Multimedia>"Audio Output". It may be that the preferences are different for various classifications, if, somehow, something is unchecked in the checkbox that comes up when you click on the grey "apply device list to ..." button.

      Thanks,

There are two devices for audio output.
      1. Jack Audio Connection Kit
      2. HDA Intel (ALC268 Analog)

I tried moving them up and down i.e. Preference sequence.
I have also checked as you have mentioned all checkboxes are checked.

Still no notification sounds. I have also noticed one more thing that
when system is started by default speakers are in muted condition
even though I unmute them on reboot they are muted automatically.

When I unmute them all players are playing ok but No Notification sound
when shutting down which was being played before driver upgradation.

      Thanks and regards

Re: KDE Sound Notification stopped working after alsa driver fix

In addition to the two choices in your System Settings section, I have 2 additional choices:
        HDA Intel (ALC1200 Digital)
HDA Intel, ALC1200 Digital (IEC958 (S/PDIF) Digital Audio Output)
However these may be a function of a difference in our hardware (ALC268 vs. ALC1200, laptop vs. desktop).

However, I have also added another choice
Playback/recording through the PulseAudio sound server
which I now use. I used my favorite package manager (Synaptic) to install the "pulseaudio" package and all its recommended and suggested companions. I have no idea whether this will solve your problem or not, but I can't think of any reason why you might have lost sound. I would suggest carefully going over the sound troubleshooting procedure that you followed before, once again.

          Thanks,

I installed GStreamer 0.10 and now while logging out logout notification is
being played but while booting by default speakers are muted so login
notification is not being played. If I unmute speakers and adjust volume
to desired level then for logout and login both notifications are being played.

One more good news is I tested Mic now its recording and I can replay
the recording with arecord / aplay.

Can u help me to have speakers unmuted by default during boot ?

if this is done then I think my problem is solved.

          regards
