    no sound in Firefox/flash and Pidgin

    Kubuntu 10.04 32bit.

    I've got an external sound card and had disabled the internal sound card in BIOS.

    In Kubuntu everything works, Skype has sound input/output and amarok works.

    But my gtk applications such as firefox (and the flash in Firefox) and pidgin has no sound.

    Any hint? Thanks.

    Firefox and sound, including flash vids, work fine on my 10.04 32-bit install. What sound card/device do you have in your rig? What Backend (System Settings > Multimedia > Backend) are you using?

      I'm using the default backend: Xine

      The sound card is a USB one: C-Media USB Headphone Set

      This works for KDE and Qt applications, but does not work for gtk+ applications and SDL games.

        Try and go to your mixer settings and see if the "PCM" volume is muted. For some reason my firefox does this every time I have a fresh install of Kubuntu.

          I'm using a USB sound card and there are no PCM channel at all.

          In kmix there're only three channels:

          Mic, Speaker, Auto Gain Control.

          With the onboard sound card there is a PCM channel, but my onboard card has no sound for 3 years (That's the reason I buy a usb sound card)

          I also noticed that alsamixer cannot found the mixer at all:
          Code:
          $ alsamixer
          cannot open mixer: No such file or directory
