    ACPI and Toshiba L505

    I'm installing on a new Toshiba Satellite L505D-ES5027 (4G, dual-core AMD Vision). I'm using the amd/64 version.

After several failed attempts with kernel panics, I found an ubuntu post (which I've now lost) suggesting turning atapi off, and then setting to atapi=ht for future boots.

Will this really get me both cores, or just hyperthreading on a single core?

Is there anything else I should know?

(I haven't gotten as far as trying to set up wireless; it's still installing).

    thanks

I have Kubuntu running flawlessly on my Toshiba a505 using that thread.

takes a while to do it all but it is well worth it in the end.

Just to get up and running, boot with acpi=noirq or acpi-off

Then take the time to compile the kernel with the patch in that thread and every piece of hardware in your laptop will work perfectly.

acpi=off and acpi-noirq will let you use all cores, I had all 4 and HT for a total of 8 with my a505.
