I recently purchased a used machine that appears to have a RV530LE graphics card in it. I also have a KDS Monitor. At resolution 1280x1024 (Auto/75.0Hz) I can expect the display to start waving, moving sine wave about a centimeter most noticeable along windows borders.
When I go into KDE's "System Settings" -> "Computer Administration" -> "Display" -> "Size & Orientation", looking under VGA-0 (Connected) I see size (refresh) as follows: 720x400(Auto/70.1Hz), 640x480(Auto/60Hz/85.0Hz), 800x600(Auto/60.3Hz/75.0Hz/85.1Hz/100Hz), 1024x768(Auto/60Hz/75.1Hz/85.0Hz), 1280x1024 (Auto/75.0Hz) and lastly Disabled.
When I set the display at the highest 1280x1024 (Auto/75.0Hz), after a period of time the edges of the display windows have the appearance of waves. Also when shut down the setting is not retained, requiring that the display be reset to the 1280x1024 (Auto/75.0Hz). Lastly after using the high resolution setting, occasionally when the machine is restarted it comes up with a white screen. Neither waves or white screen occur at the 1024x768(Auto/60Hz/75.1Hz/85.0Hz) or lower resolutions.
On my other machine using the same monitor I thought I had more video SVGA resolution options / frequencies to choose from, believe that was an NVIDIA card. I assume that I may be missing a driver or two or picked the wrong ones. If my problem was hardware failure I would expect display symptoms to appear with all settings.
Thanks for any assistance, this large screen is irritating,
Scott
