Hey guys, I updated from 9.10 to 10.04 recently and I'm having problems with my function keys.
I'm running Kubuntu on an Asus UL-50 notebook and since 10.04 the function keys to turn screen brightness up and down are behaving really strange!
It's kind of hard to describe. They register the first key press normally, but they get "stuck" or something, that is after using brightness up or down there is a pretty long timeframe in which fn-key presses are registered, but the effect has a delay of sorts. So I would, for example press fn+F5 to turn down the brightness for 1 second, the only thing that would immediately happen is a very slight dimming of my screen but only one level down from the previous. Then there is a gap in which nothing happens no matter what i press (longer than 30 seconds!), and after that all commands I have issued with fn-keys while they didn't seem to register take effect. Strangely, only the brightness up/down keys are affected, turning the screen off, volume etc all work flawlessly, except during described delay time.
Also, using the power-plasmoid thingy, the slider only changes my brightness in the very left quarter of the actual slider and there's only like 3 different levels of brightness i can select that way.
Possibly noteworthy is that the keys work correctly with the old kernel I have used before from the mainline PPA which is 2.6.32.8 I think but not with 2.6.32-22 that comes with kubuntu at the moment.
Any ideas on what I could do to circumvent that problem, maybe report the bug to the (k)ubuntu team or something? This could also be related to KDE as I now get a popup-notification bar when i press the brightness keys which does not show when using the mainline kernel.
I'm looking forward to suggestions
