    Kubuntu 10.04 beta 2 lagging badly

    I've had relatively good luck with Kubuntu until recently upgrading to Beta 1, which then through update manager has, well, become up to date ;-) Unfortunately, I have found that the stability of Kubuntu is actually worsening. Is anyone else having this issue? It started out with some things just slowing down; now my graphics keep turning off, Dolphin keeps crashing (I've had to kill it because it and a process called "ksoftirqd/1" were running at 48% of a dual core CPU...), and the system overall just isn't as snappy as... well, the alpha of 10.04? Or 9.10 for that matter.

    Is there a reason for the slowdowns? Am I the only one having these issues? This is a relatively untouched system, other than enabling the proprietary graphics (Nouveau doesn't even show up anymore) and installing a few necessities such as the Gimp and always upgrading when it prompts me to. Thanks!

    Re: Kubuntu 10.04 beta 2 lagging badly

    I've been running Lucid Lynx since alpha 1 was released and on my machine it just got faster and faster. The updates over the last couple weeks haven't increased the speed any but haven't made it any slower, either.

    Today's upgrade mistakenly put a softlink loop on Thunderbird, which prevented it from starting, but a post on the forum by Rog 131 gave the solution.

    For me, Dolphin has been rock solid stable.

    Perhaps if you installed kubuntu-desktop (or reinstalled it if its box is green) it may improve your situation.

      Not knowing, but suspecting, that updates are being performed with Kpackagekit...

      Open a console, type sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
      Windows no longer obstructs my view.

        I have the same problem until beta 1 but now the preformance is very good. Try not use kpackagekit and install synaptic for the updates. Is much better from the crap kpackagekit.
