    2.6.32-20-generic causes xorg failure

My second PC I built just this month Intel E6500 CPU - 4Gb Ram- Asus EN9500GT GPU with LL loaded and working great with the 2.6.32-19-generic but also wont startx with -20 kernel.
I have the latest drivers for both GPU's installed.
Has this happened to anyone else?
The info spat out after attempting to startx from the command line when booting says,
    Code:
(EE) NVIDIA: FAiled to load the NVIDIA kernel module. Please check your systems kernel log for additional error messages.
(EE) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module specific error, 0) No drivers available.
    Fatal server error:
    no screens found
     ddxSigGiveUp: Closing log
    Giving up.
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to x server.
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.
Do I need to reinstall as the driver works under kernel 2.6.32-19

OK I'll reply to myself.... 8)
It appears that after a kernel upgrade one MUST reinstall NVIDIA drivers (bloody Nvidia corp) as they are propriety. I had tried to install envy to help but cant find it in KUBUNTU repos, so I tried to download it (latest nvidia driver) and put it in the /home directory and
    Code:
    sudo install NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-195.36.15-pkg2.run
    I then get
    Code:
Install: missing destination file operand after 'NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-195.36.15-pkg2.run'
Still being quite new to command line computing I have no Idea what that meant?

      don't use the install command.

      use sh

Thanks so much I'd forgotten about sh.
I tried it but I got errors going to investigate them now.

              Re: 2.6.32-20-generic causes xorg failure

Ok the errors with sh installation of the latest driver from From Nvidia NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-195.36.15-pkg2.run

(this is from memory when I was very tired)

Were something about missing dependencies/compiler gcc and something else ( I think because I'm using beta2 not everything needed is there). I sort of understand what it meant so I used kpackage to find them and install them. The sh command opened the nvidia installer and it all seemed to work untill I got "failed" at the end.

So in a fit of annoyance, silly me, decided to just reinstall Lucid, overwriting the previous install. Then I just started the updates from kpackage first, I rebooted and then used Jockey to install the nvidia driver. ( Oh what to do when the next kernel comes along and i cant use sh)

Alas this had consequences, for example the 3D effect "desktop cube" allowed with my first install to set a different picture on each desktop. Now it only lets me set one for all
Mind you all the reinstallation was done in under half an hour brilliantly fast.
Any way thanks for the help! I now have a 64bt Flash Player issue which I'll create a post for.

PS can the nvidia driver knock out firmware on LCD TV's?

If I'm not mistaken, the driver is packaged as nvidia-current.

I also got the same problem with kernel updates breaking the nvidia proprietary driver.

I apparently got nvidia-current installed, but how do you run it? There is no nvidia-current file...

Does anybody know how to run nvidia-current (formerly envyNG)? I can't find a nvidia-current command. Would be a great help. Thanks!

You don't have to run it. Installing it installs the driver. Should install it, anyway.

But then how do you keep the driver current (or re-install for new kernel) when a kernel update is downloaded? Uninstall and re-install? The breaking is caused every time a new kernel version is being used.
