    Cups-Dell printers

It would be nice if somehow someone could fix the cups so that it would recognize all the Dell Printers, lots of people use these printers all over the world, just a wish on my part

If you want to get your wish noticed then you need to post somewhere like: http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/ and get it voted on.

I believe that some Dell printers are just rebadged Lexmark printers. Lexmark has the worst support for Linux printers - HP has the best.

Perhaps you would be better to tackle Dell and Lexmark...

Unfortunately Dell has decided that its customers need only use windows or mac with their printers , hence they will not provide drivers for linux. The remedy, in my opinion, is really to buy printers from manufacturers providing drivers to the Linux community.

Agreed. The ones to approach are Lexmark and Dell. I know several people who have installed Linux and tried with the Dell printers and they just are doorstops with Linux, it seems. I've used several HP multi-function printers over the years and they just work and work very well. Wouldn't have any other brand, myself.

I also have excellent success with HP all-in-ones and one vote for Samsung baby lasers.

I have had an Samsung ML-2010 and now have an ML-2510 - fast, cheap, work.

To the OP, you didn't tell anyone what dell printer you have....

I have a Dell 1320c and have tried all the different processes on the internet, have tried the Fuji one several times and it will not work for me, I need the front feed, I have a Samsung 1710 that has a front feed, now I need a color laser that has a front feed. As of now I have a second computer that has windoze on it just to use the Dell printer.

A bit old... but look at "Dell 1320C Printer under Ubuntu" - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=783346

I've got an HP 2605dn color laser at home - works fine under Linux and has front feed, built-in networking and a duplexer. Very nice printer.
