I updated my laptop's 9.10 Karmic install two weeks ago to 10.04, as my work computer had been working fine with 10.04. However, now the laptop will boot into the KDM login page, but if I log into KDE, the splash screen fails just as the second idon (the wrench and the screwdriver) are coming up. I thought that my custom KDM and spash screens (from kde-look.org) might have been causing problems. I tried opening the system settings application from gnome, but the Login Manager applet fails saying:
"Cannot load library /usr/lib/kde4/kcm_kdm.so (/usr/lib/libGL.so.1: undefined stmbol: _nv000009gl)"
For good measure, I renamed my .kde directory to get rid of any old setting, but that did not work, and I moved the old .kde folder back. I even tried switching to GDM, thinking bypassing KDM on my way to KDE might help, but no luck.
I originally installed 9.10 on this laptop, and later installed kde 4.4 from the 9.10 ppa archive. I updated to 10.04 from this 9.10 KDE 4.4. Could my problem with the library and the Login Manager applet be a result of this? How could this be fixed? Any suggestions would be appreciated. =)
