I've noticed that adblock plus is not blocking any adverts and that is mainly why I use firefox. Unfortunately opera is the same and I have to use konqueror instead, except for some websites that will not accept it. Anyone else having the same problem.

This does not directly address your problem, but you can block ad-sites with your /etc/hosts file. Here's a how-to and downloadable host definitions.
