    Login with no users?

I'm kinda new to Linux, but very interested. I just installed the beta on Parallels for Mac, to test if I want the final version on my Netbook. It installed fine, but I didn't get the chance to create a user. Now it asks me to login...

    I tried

    username: ubuntu
    password: empty or also 'ubuntu'

    It didn't work..
Any chance how I may be able to login?

When I hit Cntl + Alt + F1 to get into console mode, I can't use commands, because it thinks it's a username/password.

Are you sure you installed it, and are not just running off of the LiveCD? I ask, because when you *install* you are forced to provide both, a user name and a password. You can not install without providing this.

I'm pretty sure I installed it..
When I start up the virtual machine the ISO file is no longer connected to it, and it will boot up onto the login screen.
I redid the installation over 3 times, 2 via LiveCD installer, 1 in the normal installer, but it never asks me to give a username or password!

Hmm. Well that is a problem. Given that you are posting in 10.04 Lucid Lynx, and that Lucid is still being developed, and goes through daily builds which can, from day to day, incorporate oddities, I'd suggest that you use Jaunty 9.10 instead.

          I'm downloading 9.10 right now!
Was kinda excited to try out the new beta, but I'm afraid I have to wait a little longer. Hope they'll fix it soon.

Ultimately, all show-stopper bugs will be worked out. They always do.

Actually, I can confirm this problem. I just installed 10.04 from today's daily build and the installer never asked for a user name or password. I didn't think about it until I started booting up after the install and of course, it didn't have a user name for me to enter. Hey, It's a beta...

I have no doubt that it'll be fixed soon.
