    SOLVED task bar missing

I just updated from Karmic to Lucid and now my task bar at the bottom of the window is missing. I have to alt+tab to switch through programs or bring one back if I open a new one. How can I get the task bar back?

By "task bar" do you mean the task manager in your panel or the entire panel

The whole bottom panel that is like XP's task bar, it has the K menu (like the windows start button), the list of open programs, network manager, clock, etc.

Ok, right-click on the desktop, Unlock widgets (if needed), select Add New Panel

This will leave you with a blank new panel and you can add the widgets that you want to it.

Unfortunately, I don't know of a way to restore the default panel - but it would be a nice feature!

It will likely be in an odd location (mine appeared at the upper left corner of the screen) but no worries - right click on the new panel, select Panel Options then Panel Settings and you'll get a control bar that will let you resize and relocate the bar.

The default panel widgets from left to right are:

        Application Launcher
        Quick Access
        Task Manager
        Pager
        System Tray
        Indicator Display
        Device Notifier
        Digital Clock

Dont; fret if the don't appear in the locations you want. Once you've added what you want, re-select Panel Options and move the widgets about until you're happy.

thanks. I had added a few of the widgets to a panel, but I didn't know what all of them were, plus I was hoping I could just restore the default. Thanks.

            Re: task bar missing

FYI you CAN restore the original entire desktop with these commands:

            kquitapp plasma
            rm $KDEHOME/share/config/plasma-appletsrc
            plasma

but it also wipes out all your desktop setting.

People accidentally wipe out the panel all the time. Some great script writer out there will have to come up with a fix for this!

Please edit the first post and mark is as Solved (or something similar) so others will know, thanks.
