    verify installed release level

On the kubuntu news page I see, that lucid is now Beta 1, including amarok 2.3.0. I did the upgrade today, got a lot of packages, amarok still says it is 2.2.2.90. aptitude update/upgrade installs no new packages. I now wonder, if there is a tool which gives detailled information about the installed release level (lsb_update -a just says that I am on lucid). I'd like to know, if I am still on alpha3 or already on beta 1. I know a tool from AIX which does exactly this job for AIX. Output is similar to that:

    System relase level is 5.3-10
These Packages are still 5.3-8: list, ...
These Packages are still 5.3.7: list, ....
These Packages are already 5.3.13: list, ...

Is anything like this possible in Ubuntu?

    greetings
    Hans-Peter

    Alpha Beta RC Final

Alpha, beta, rc, final are waypoints/milestones. There are plans what to should be done (targeted) before that stage (day).

Note that all plans are subject to revision .

If you have upgraded (successfully) after the official beta 1 release announcement then you are using the beta1.

      Re: verify installed release level

Thanks a lot for the insight. I always tried to find something like these launchpad links to see whats going on. Yes, and I was a bit overenthusiastic about amarok. Should have read the whole story.
      Again, thanks a lot,
      best wishes
