I updated my laptop a few months ago to keep Lucid Lynx to give it a shot and was quite impressed from the start (other than the usual problems with using Alpha software). My laptop isn't exactly my what I would call my critical system so I don't mind messing around with that, plus it has an ATI card which has been causing problems until AMD/ATI catches up. My desktop isn't exactly what anyone would consider critical either... it's mainly for school work and it's backed up regularly, but has an Nvidia card which I have been following as to support and compatibility. I finally decided to upgrade the desktop to the current development of Kubuntu (Lucid Lynx).
And:
I just finished updating my desktop system to the latest LL (Alpha 3) and I was surprised to see it boot to KDM in less than 10 seconds. As the title says: Holy boot time Batman! From selecting from Grub menu to KDM login was ridiculously short (didn't even see the normal Kubuntu usplash screen, just a few lines of text for a moment). I know the (K)Ubuntu team has been working on making the boot process as quick as possible, and all I can say is good job to all
Maybe this isn't universal across the board, maybe some of you don't get the same results, but all I can say is: WOW!
